What Auburn usually asks for

Those are the ones that come up most in Auburn. Everything else we install is available here too. Every system we install is available here, and the right one is chosen from the slab in front of us rather than from a list.

Flake Epoxy Flooring

With Auburn University and the research and manufacturing that has followed it driving the town, flake epoxy flooring earns its place in Auburn.

The chip does real work beyond looks. It builds texture underfoot, and it hides the small variations in a slab that a solid color would put on display.

Flake goes on while the base coat is still wet. We broadcast it to refusal, which means we keep throwing chips until the floor will not take any more, then scrape back the loose material once it has set.

Blend choices run from near neutral greys to blues, greens, and browns. The texture gives you grip when the floor is wet, without feeling rough.

Polished Concrete

Given student housing, faculty neighborhoods, and fast growing subdivisions, polished concrete suits a lot of what we see in Auburn.

Polishing is mechanical, not a coating. We run diamond tooling across the slab in steps, each one finer than the last, and the gloss comes from the concrete closing up rather than from anything we put on it.

A densifier goes down partway through the grit sequence. It reacts with the free lime in the slab and hardens the surface from within, which is what keeps a polished floor from dusting the way bare concrete does.

Sweeping and an occasional damp mop is the entire maintenance routine. Nothing to reapply. There is no wax and no topcoat to peel.

Urethane Cement Flooring

With Auburn University and the research and manufacturing that has followed it driving the town, urethane cement flooring earns its place in Auburn.

These rooms get integral cove base, so the floor turns up the wall instead of stopping at a joint. There is no seam at the wall line for water to work into.

Urethane cement is a different animal from epoxy. It is thicker, it tolerates moisture in the slab that would blow an epoxy off, and it handles thermal shock, which is the real problem in a kitchen.

It takes hot water, steam cleaning, and caustic wash down chemicals. It can go over slabs with moisture that would fail an epoxy.

Auburn and the floors in it

Geographically Auburn is in Lee County in east Alabama, which puts it comfortably inside our area.

What gets poured in Auburn is student housing, faculty neighborhoods, and fast growing subdivisions, and the age of a slab changes the prep more than the finish does.

What gets built here follows Auburn University and the research and manufacturing that has followed it, and that decides what needs finishing.

We are often in Opelika, Smiths Station, Loachapoka in the same week, so scheduling around Auburn is rarely a problem.

The economy around Auburn runs on Auburn University and the research and manufacturing that has followed it, which means both houses and working buildings need floors.

Flake epoxy goes in most garages. Polished concrete goes in most open commercial spaces. Urethane cement goes where it is wet.

The slab underneath

Anything poured in the last twenty years around Auburn is usually straightforward to prepare. Older concrete takes longer to open up, and we price that honestly once we have ground a test patch.

Coatings fail at the bond line. Grinding is how you stop that.

The grinder comes out first on every job. That is not a preference, it is what makes a coating stay down.

Interior work in Auburn runs year round because the building is conditioned. Exterior slabs, porches, patios and pool decks get scheduled against the forecast, since resin cures chemically and a cold or soaking slab changes how that goes.

Sometimes the honest answer is that a slab is not worth coating. If a crack is still moving, if sections have dropped, or if there is water coming up through the concrete with nowhere to go, a coating will fail and take your money with it. We would rather tell you that in Auburn than sell you a floor twice.

We quote the floor first, in person. Once you accept, the install gets booked as a block rather than squeezed between other jobs, because a resin floor cannot be half finished and left overnight. For a Auburn job that usually means we hold consecutive days and give you the dates up front.

Whatever the room is, the sequence does not change: open the concrete, fix what needs fixing, then put down the system the slab will actually hold.
