Shelby County

Pelham and the floors in it

Pelham sits at the foot of Oak Mountain in Shelby County, about as far from us as most of the towns we cover.

The concrete under Pelham is suburban homes plus commercial and light industrial buildings along the interstate, which tells us where to expect sealer, glue or an old coating.

With Oak Mountain State Park and the I-65 business corridor anchoring the local economy, commercial floors here work for a living.

Being near Alabaster, Helena, Calera means we are through this part of Shelby County regularly.

Because of Oak Mountain State Park and the I-65 business corridor, Pelham has a mix of residential and commercial slabs we are comfortable in.

Older slabs often need repair or an overlay before any finish is worth putting down.

What Pelham usually asks for

That is what Pelham tends to ask for. The full range is on the table regardless. Every system we install is available here, and the right one is chosen from the slab in front of us rather than from a list.

Flake Epoxy Flooring

Pelham asks about flake epoxy flooring often, and suburban homes plus commercial and light industrial buildings along the interstate is the reason.

Flake goes on while the base coat is still wet. We broadcast it to refusal, which means we keep throwing chips until the floor will not take any more, then scrape back the loose material once it has set.

Broadcasting to refusal is what makes the finish consistent. A light scatter leaves thin spots that show as blotches once the clear coat goes over them.

The texture gives you grip when the floor is wet, without feeling rough. Chips and scuffs disappear into the pattern instead of standing out.

Concrete Resurfacing

Concrete resurfacing fits Pelham well, both for the housing and because of Oak Mountain State Park and the I-65 business corridor.

An overlay is a thin layer of polymer modified cement bonded over the slab you already have. Structurally the old concrete keeps doing its job. The overlay gives you a fresh surface to finish.

It is not a fix for a slab that has failed. If sections have dropped or a crack keeps moving with the seasons, that is a subgrade problem and an overlay will mirror it. We say so when we see it.

Far less cost and disruption than tear out and replacement. Surface spalling, scaling, and pitting go away.

Non Slip Treatments

With Oak Mountain State Park and the I-65 business corridor driving the town, non slip treatments earns its place in Pelham.

It can go into most of the finishes we install, so a pool deck or a kitchen does not have to choose between looking right and being safe underfoot.

Grip comes from aggregate suspended in the top coat. Aluminum oxide or graded quartz, sized to the job, so the texture is built into the finish instead of taped on top of it.

Traction where floors get wet, greasy, or see a lot of feet. Grit grade is chosen for the room rather than applied by default.

The slab underneath

Older slabs in Pelham often carry a sealer or an old coating that has to come off before anything new will bond. That is normal and it is part of the job, not a surprise charge.

We grind before anything else, which opens the concrete so the resin has something to hold.

We open the slab with diamond tooling so the coating keys in rather than sitting on top.

You stay off the floor overnight after the top coat. Foot traffic is usually fine the next day; vehicles need longer, and exactly how much longer depends on the product and how warm the slab is. We give you real numbers before we start rather than a stock answer.

Interior work in Pelham runs year round because the building is conditioned. Exterior slabs, porches, patios and pool decks get scheduled against the forecast, since resin cures chemically and a cold or soaking slab changes how that goes.

Sometimes the honest answer is that a slab is not worth coating. If a crack is still moving, if sections have dropped, or if there is water coming up through the concrete with nowhere to go, a coating will fail and take your money with it. We would rather tell you that in Pelham than sell you a floor twice.

Whatever the room is, the sequence does not change: open the concrete, fix what needs fixing, then put down the system the slab will actually hold.

(205) 238-8111

Do you actually take jobs in Pelham?

We do. Shelby County is part of our normal area and Pelham is inside it. The same people who quote it install it.

What do you install most around Pelham?

Mostly flake epoxy flooring, concrete resurfacing and non slip treatments. That follows the building stock here more than anything else, and your floor may point somewhere different once we have looked at it.

Do you do commercial work in Pelham?

Yes, and it is a real part of what we do here. With Oak Mountain State Park and the I-65 business corridor locally, there are buildings whose floors have to survive a cleaning routine, not just look right.

How soon could you get to Pelham?

Usually within a few days to look at it. We are often working Alabaster, Helena in the same stretch, so fitting Pelham into a run is normally straightforward.

Is there a charge to come look at a Pelham floor?

No, not inside our service area, and Pelham is inside it. The visit is how we find out what the floor actually needs.

Can I see one of your floors in person?

Often yes, particularly commercial floors in buildings the public can walk into. Ask when you call.
