Lee County

Waverly and the floors in it

Waverly is in northern Lee County, inside the 100 miles we work out of Huntsville.

The building stock we meet in Waverly is a small village of older homes with an arts community, and that is what decides the system more than any preference does.

Locally the driver is the Old 280 Boogie and a preserved village core. Floors in those buildings get treated accordingly.

We are often in Auburn, Opelika, Smiths Station in the same week, so scheduling around Waverly is rarely a problem.

Waverly is known locally for the Old 280 Boogie and a preserved village core, and the buildings that come with it are the ones we end up in.

Residential work skews toward garages and porches. Commercial work skews toward anything that has to be washed down.

The slab underneath

What is already on a Waverly floor matters as much as the concrete underneath. Paint, glue, sealer and old coatings all come off mechanically first.

Coatings fail at the bond line. Grinding is how you stop that.

The grinder comes out first on every job. That is not a preference, it is what makes a coating stay down.

We quote the floor first, in person. Once you accept, the install gets booked as a block rather than squeezed between other jobs, because a resin floor cannot be half finished and left overnight. For a Waverly job that usually means we hold consecutive days and give you the dates up front.

Clear the room before we arrive. For a garage that means everything off the floor, including shelving feet and anything mounted low on the wall that we need to cut in behind. We can work around a few heavy items, but the more of the slab that is open, the better the edges come out.

Grinders and vacuums pull real current. Most Waverly homes have enough, but older properties sometimes do not, and we would rather find that out at the quote than on the morning. We bring our own equipment and dust extraction, so the mess stays far smaller than people expect.

Whatever the room is, the sequence does not change: open the concrete, fix what needs fixing, then put down the system the slab will actually hold.

What Waverly usually asks for

Most Waverly inquiries land on one of those three. Your floor may point somewhere else, and that is fine. Every system we install is available here, and the right one is chosen from the slab in front of us rather than from a list.

Concrete Resurfacing

Concrete resurfacing fits Waverly well, both for the housing and because of the Old 280 Boogie and a preserved village core.

An overlay is a thin layer of polymer modified cement bonded over the slab you already have. Structurally the old concrete keeps doing its job. The overlay gives you a fresh surface to finish.

It is not a fix for a slab that has failed. If sections have dropped or a crack keeps moving with the seasons, that is a subgrade problem and an overlay will mirror it. We say so when we see it.

Far less cost and disruption than tear out and replacement. Surface spalling, scaling, and pitting go away.

Concrete Refinishing

In Waverly, concrete refinishing is a frequent answer, largely down to a small village of older homes with an arts community.

Once the slab is open we can see what it actually needs. Sometimes that is polish. Sometimes it is a coating. The floor tells you, and we would rather say so than sell the wrong system.

Refinishing usually starts with removal. A coating that is peeling, a floor that has been waxed for years, glue from old tile: it comes off mechanically before anything else happens.

Most floors people assume are finished can be brought back. Removing a failed coating properly is what keeps the next one from lifting.

Flake Epoxy Flooring

Given a small village of older homes with an arts community, flake epoxy flooring suits a lot of what we see in Waverly.

Broadcasting to refusal is what makes the finish consistent. A light scatter leaves thin spots that show as blotches once the clear coat goes over them.

The chip does real work beyond looks. It builds texture underfoot, and it hides the small variations in a slab that a solid color would put on display.

Chips and scuffs disappear into the pattern instead of standing out. Blend choices run from near neutral greys to blues, greens, and browns.
